Kogan Mobile

About two weeks ago, e-tailer Kogan announced intentions to get into mobile broadband before the end of the year, but it turns out before the end of the month would've been more accurate. If you're after a data only SIM, you can get one from Kogan as of today.

Kogan will initial offer two data-only plans: 8GB for $29.90 per 30 day recharge, or 30GB for $49.90 per 30 day recharge. If you're okay with commitment, discounts are available to those willing to pre-purchase a year's worth of access. If you're after the 8GB plan, you'll need to fork out $329.90 upfront, which works out to $27.12 per month. The 30GB plan will set you back $549.90 upfront, equivalent to $45.20 per month.

If neither of those plans are big enough for you, larger data inclusion options will be added "in the near future".

Kogan Mobile executive director David Shafer says the company's mobile broadband offering is about bridging the gap between ADSL broadband prices and mobile prices.

"Many Australians still experience the poor quality and slow speeds of legacy ADSL services," said Shafer. "Customers who rent their homes may want to avoid going through the process of signing up with an ADSL provider, and avoid fixed-line phone connections - especially, when NBN services will continue to be rolled out over the coming years."

"Customers have been telling us they love the price, simplicity, and service they get with Kogan Mobile, and they want it for their broadband access."

"We recently announced that Kogan Mobile will have fixed line NBN services available in 2018, and we’re extremely happy to bring Mobile Broadband to all Australians today."

Kogan's mobile broadband data only SIMs will work in tablets, portable hotspots, and smartphones (although you're obviously not able to make calls and send texts on a data only SIM). As with Kogan's mobile plans, its mobile broadband offering is powered by Vodafone's 4G network.
