Vodafone has added the final outstanding segment of its customers to its national 4G network, with prepaid Mobile Broadband (MBB) subscribers now enjoying the best speeds the network has to offer.

To coincide with the addition of 4G speeds, Vodafone has also rejigged its pricing for MBB services, adding a new 25GB post-paid option for $90 per month, and a number of new pre-paid plans, too.

Postpaid Expiry Prepaid Expiry
2.5GB $20 30-days 300MB $10 30-days
4GB $30 30-days 1GB $20 30-days
8GB $45 30-days 3GB $30 30-days
12GB $65 30-days 5GB $45 45-days
25GB $90 30-days 8GB $60 60-days
10GB $90 90-days
15GB $125 1 year
22GB $200 1 year

Automatic data top-ups are also being introduced for postpaid customers, who will receive an extra 1GB for $10 every time they hit their data limits. Customers can beat the computer tot he jump, with a the ability to add a data bolt-on at any time during their billing cycle.

The top-up system is now active for Vodafone postpaid mobile customers, with the same $10 charge for the same 1GB of data. Optus and Spintel also use a similar system.

Hits and misses

Taking a look at the MBB options on postpaid services, the new Vodafone plans are a mixture of wins and near misses. It’s $20 p/m plan is the best value at this price point, with more data for your dollar compared with Optus, Virgin and a number of the MVNOs.

Vodafone broadband comparison

Vodafone falls slightly behind at $30, thanks to Virgin’s generous 6GB option, and again at the $45 mark with Virgin’s 12GB plan for $40.

Heavy MBB users will appreciate Vodafone’s data rich 25GB plan for $90, but it is a tough call whether it is better value than 20GB for $74.95 over at Optus. When you boil it down Voda comes out slightly ahead charging $3.60 per GB next to the $3.75 per GB you’d pay at Optus.
