Vodafone cuts price of NBN across its range

Vodafone is now among the most affordable NBN providers in Australia following a shift in pricing today across all of the plans in its range.

The new pricing represents a $15 per month cut in the price of its Standard (NBN 25), Standard Plus (NBN 50) and Premium speed (NBN 100) plans. These new prices are not promotional, and all existing Vodafone NBN customers will be charged the lower price going forward.

On top of the prices above, Vodafone customers with an eligible Vodafone mobile phone plan will save a further $10 per month on the price of Standard Plus and Premium NBN services.

All plans are contract-free and have no setup costs, and come with the Vodafone WiFi Hub modem with 4G backup. Customers won't pay extra upfront for the modem, but would be required to pay out the balance of its value if they choose to leave the plan early.

Vodafone’s Chief Commercial Officer, Ben McIntosh, says that the absence of setup fees and contracts is one of the key differences for NBN customers choosing Vodafone over the competition.

"The monthly pricing is super aggressive, but we believe that we're really challenging the market by offering all our plans with no lock in contracts, all with unlimited data, and no setup fees at all. Our customers can get what we believe is the best product at the best price with no hidden traps," said McIntosh.

McIntosh urges customers to do the maths when comparing NBN plans, and to look beyond the headline price.

"This isn't just about cheap monthly pricing, but it's about all of the other costs you rack up with the other providers, with the other big ones, by not shopping around. If customers are sticking with their incumbent [internet] providers, then they are not going to be getting the best deal they can."

One missing piece for customers is an indication of what the quality of the service is like. Vodafone launched NBN products at the end of last year but is yet to share it's average network speeds or participate in ACCC research. Thankfully this is set to change soon, with McIntosh confirming that Vodafone will share speed test results in the next couple of weeks, and suggesting that these average speeds with be on par with its major competitors.
