Tangerine Telecom has come out with a new Home Wireless Broadband plan offering a 1000GB data allowance per month.
1000GB sure is a big number, especially when you look at other comparable wireless plans on the market right now. All of the other wireless broadband options in our database max out at 500GB per month with the majority sitting at the 200GB mark.
Currently you can sign up to the plan for $89.90 per month for the first six months, after this time the cost will revert to $99.90 per month. You'll need to bring your own modem or you can purchase one through Tangerine for $259.
Since the term is contract-free you're free to leave whenever you want - say once the promotional period is over - without needing to pay additional charges.
Understandably this deal is the most expensive Wireless Broadband plan in our database. Factoring in the discount you'll end up paying $14.90 - $20.00 extra per month for an additional 500GB of data to use.
According to ABS data, most Aussie households only go through 85GB of home broadband per month, and we sure aren't being stingy with our usage. Globally we use 440,000 Terabytes of data browsing YouTube alone, spend around two hours per day on social media each and fit in work between our leisurely online activities.
So it does make you wonder if it's even possible to get through this 1000GB each month. We've done some math and here's what you'd need to do to meet your data allowance with Tangerine.
- Watch 606 hours of YouTube in High Definition
That's the equivalent of watching YouTube for 25 days straight. - Watch 333 hours of Netflix in HD
That's 13 days worth of Netflix, which means that you could watch all 10 seasons of Friends twice and still have three hours left over. - Sit on TikTok for 49 days
This one is literally impossible, even if it feels like it isn't. - Download Red Dead Redemption 2 eleven times, or Microsoft Flight Simulator six times
Games range between 50GB and 150GB to download fresh, so it is entirely possible to blast through 1TB for avid gamers. - Stream 4K video for 142 hours
According to Netflix statistics, you can get through just under six days of 4K viewing before capping out 1000GB.
A 1000GB allowance is as close as we're getting to unlimited data for wireless broadband plans at the moment, and could be a great alternative for large households looking to get away from the NBN.
Tangerine wireless broadband operates on Optus' 3G/4G network, so speeds will be determined by what mobile network is available in your area.
