Optus NBN price backflip makes plans affordable again

Optus has unveiled new pricing on its NBN, cable and ADSL2+ plans, slashing $15 off per month across the range. The plan change essentially reverses a $15 price hike Optus rolled out earlier this year. Plans now cost exactly the same amount that they did back in April 2019, before the changes.

That puts Optus' unlimited data NBN 50 plans at $70 per month just for the NBN, or $90 per month with entertainment extras:

All Fixed Line nbn®

Optus Everyday nbn®

Meanwhile, Optus NBN 100 plans now start at $100 per month just for the NBN, or $120 per month with entertainment extras:

FTTN, FTTB, FTTC

Optus Fast nbn®

FTTN, FTTB, FTTC

nbn® 100/18 Mbps
Unlimited Data
Deal: $84/mth for a year, then $99/mth or as notified. New services. Incl intro offer + extra $5/mth off. Min cost $390. Ends 6/10.

In both cases, a 24-month contract comes with a $99 set-up fee, whereas a no-contract plan attracts a $200 set-up fee. The $20 extra entertainment fee will bag you a Fetch TV Mighty set-top box, one premium Fetch TV channel pack and an Optus Sport subscription.

The price change means plans are now far more competitive against the current market. In particular, the NBN 50 market, in which the majority of plans tend to sit at around $70 per month for unlimited data:

The plan change also means that landline calls are no longer included in the price of Optus NBN, cable or ADSL2+ plans. Instead, customers have the option to pay for calls at pay-as-you-go rates or add one or more call packs to the price of their plan.

Call packs are priced at $5 per month for unlimited calls to standard local and national numbers, and $5 per month for unlimited calls to Australian mobiles. You can also add a $10 per month international call pack which comes with unlimited calls to standard landlines in 25 selected destinations and mobiles in 7 selected destinations.

The domestic landline and mobile call packs come included as a standard feature with Optus internet Fetch TV bundles.
