NBN sign

NBN Co today revealed a whole host of new information about the FTTP program that will allow customers on FTTN and FTTC technology types to upgrade to a full fibre internet experience, including a comprehensive list of towns and suburbs where the upgrades will be taking place.

The biggest reveal is how the upgrade process will work. As previously announced, customers will need to opt-in to get a full fibre upgrade once their area is FTTP-ready. For FTTN customers, they'll simply need to order an NBN 100 plan. This will start the process of upgrading a premise to FTTP. On the other hand, FTTC customers will need to order an NBN 250 plan at a minimum due to its faster capabilities.

NBN Co expects the first customers in eligible areas will be able to request upgrades by November this year, but has yet to determine the process of how customers will be informed. The network builder says it is on track to achieve its goal of enabling 75% of homes and businesses to get gigabit speeds by 2023.

In addition, NBN Co revealed that 97% of HFC premises are now able to order NBN 250 plans, and 58% can now get NBN 1000 plans. It is expected that 94% of all HFC premises will be able to get NBN 1000 plans by the end of the year. When plans faster than NBN 100 first launched, only 75% of HFC customers were able to get NBN 250 plans, and just 7% NBN 1000.

Premises in following towns and suburbs will be part of the FTTP upgrade program, but NBN Co has yet to provide specific timing:
