MyRepublic has followed Aussie Broadband and Superloop in launching an NBN 250 plan, making it one of the few telcos offering customers plans with speeds that faster than 100Mbps.
Priced at $109 per month with unlimited, MyRepublic's new offering is the cheapest NBN 250 plan currently on the market. Aussie Broadband and Superloop both currently charged $129 per month for the same kind of plan. MyRepublic's plan is available contract-free, or a 12-month plan if you want to bundle in a modem at no extra cost (well, other than shipping).
While MyRepublic's plan is cheaper than the alternatives, it may also be slower at peak times. MyRepublic reports typical evening speeds of 150Mbps, while Aussie Broadband and Superloop report typical evening speeds of 215Mbps.
NBN 250 plans are only available for a select group of NBN customers: all Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) connections, and 70% of HFC connections. This represents roughly 32% of the customers currently able to connect to the NBN.
NBN Co intends to upgrade the HFC portion of the network to ensure all customers can sign-up for an NBN 250 plan by June 2021.
Some Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) connections may be capable of connecting to NBN 250 plans down the line, but at present, no telco offering faster plans will sell them to FTTC customers. There's no official timeline on this, however.
If you've got a Fibre to the Node (FTTN), Fibre to the Building (FTTB), Fixed Wireless or Satellite NBN connection, you'll miss out on access to these faster speed tiers for the foreseeable future.
While Aussie Broadband and Superloop both also offer NBN 1000 plans, MyRepublic hasn't done so at this stage.
