Australians connecting to the NBN via HFC will soon get faster speeds on NBN 1000 plans, as reported by iTnews. From May 1, HFC users will get be able to achieve download speeds of close to a gigabit on NBN 1000 plans, up from a 750Mbps cap.
When NBN 1000 plans were first made available to HFC users, the 750Mbps cap was introduced to help manage capacity. While the plans still can burst to 970Mbps, 750Mbps is typically the fastest speed HFC users with an NBN 1000 plan can achieve.
An NBN Co spokesperson said that investment in the HFC portion of the network means these caps can be removed now.
"[This] will allow download speeds of the HFC network to be more closely aligned to those experienced by customers with full fibre (Fibre to the Premises) connections," said the spokesperson.
"These enhancements on the HFC network will benefit high users by delivering more consistent high-speed throughput."
NBN Co doesn't foresee the speed boost requiring any outages or technical changes. As such, HFC users with an NBN 1000 plan should simply see faster speeds from May 1 onward.
