Working from home can be challenging, especially when the whole family is emailing, zooming and learning from home at the same time. The last thing you need to worry about is whether the internet is running at full speed. It should just work, right?

NBN provider Superloop agrees. It owns and operates its own network infrastructure, meaning it has complete control over how the network is tweaked and optimised to make sure its customers get worry-free internet when they need it.

And, right now, Superloop are offering Fast tier nbn plans from just $69.95 per month for the first six months. That’s 100Mbps, with no lock-in contracts and access to an Aussie based call centre, at one of the cheapest prices in the country.

As you can see, $69.95 per month isn’t just a little cheaper than the big telcos, it is a lot cheaper. There’s no setup costs, no lock-in contracts and no early exit fees.

Cheaper doesn’t mean lesser performance, though. In fact with Superloop it’s quite the opposite. Its Typical Evening speeds (the average speed customers get between 7pm and 11pm each night) isn’t just close to the 100Mbps maximum speed, it is bang-on 100Mbps. Which just makes sense: you shouldn’t have to check that you are getting the speeds you are paying for. With Superloop, you get reliably fast internet at a great price.

Of course, if you want something a bit different, Superloop has a range of plans, featuring different download and upload speed options.

Expert tip: check your WiFi

To make the most of your nbn connection, you need to make sure you have the right equipment in your home to share the web with the numerous different TVs, laptops, tablets, phones under your roof.

For mid-sized to larger homes, a mesh WiFi network can make a huge difference. Typically a mesh system includes two or three routers in the box which wirelessly connect together creating one big WiFi network in your home. Make sure you check out Superloop’s current offer on the Amazon Eero 6 mesh system for just $157.95.

Fast internet needs more than speed

Choosing a great nbn plan is about more than just the speed tier you choose. It’s about having a consistent, reliable connection, one that delivers the speeds you’re paying for, and other essential internet metrics, like fast latency (which is also known as ping in the industry).

Latency is a hidden but important part of the internet performance equation. When you are browsing the web and click on a link, you send a command to a local server that passes the command across the world and back again - resulting in the webpage loading on your screen. Latency measures how long it takes for you to send and receive messages with the local server.

We talk about latency most when we discuss online gaming. Lightning fast communication of the inputs from joysticks and buttons is essential for creating a level playing field online. But the impact of poor latency also affects regular web browsing too. You can pay to have the fastest internet connection, but high latency will make using the web feel slow.

The ACCC keeps an eye on latency when pulling together its regular nbn internet reports, and recently crowned Superloop as the provider with the lowest average latency, even during the busy evening hours. These measurements, taken from thousands of tests, put Superloop ahead of the likes of Telstra, Optus and TPG, and in some instances proved that Superloop delivered latency twice as fast as other providers in the tests.

Doing the heavy lifting

As it is with our favourite technologies, the most important parts are often the invisible bits.

To really understand the value of being a Superloop customer, we have to get a little bit techy and explain how the Superloop backhaul network is a major reason to consider Superloop as your nbn service provider.

Put very simply, there are a number of parts that make up your connection to the world wide web. The NBN is the bit that connects all of our homes and businesses together, but it needs to connect to the rest of the web. This requires an enormous network of cables and is referred to as backhaul.

Superloop currently owns over 1000kms of fibre cable across the countries it operates in, including Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore. Locally, this network of cabling connects to every point of interconnect in the NBN.

Its ongoing investment in this essential infrastructure, including a recently announced project to further improve network performance, means that the Superloop team have control over the different knobs and levers used to optimise people’s connections at the hundreds of different connection points around the country. Meanwhile, the majority of other nbn providers are stuck relying on someone else to provide backhaul which limits how much they can help you when you need it most.

Of course, you need a dedicated team to pull these levers and knobs, which is why Superloop have invested in an Australian based call centre, located in Adelaide. The nbn is such a complex beast, you really need locally based support who understand the quirks and complexities of the NBN, and you can be sure that when you need tech support, you’ll speak with a Superloop support agent who understands the specific issues of the NBN.
