Jumping onto the MATE website does feel a bit like talking to your very Aussie, very friendly neighbour.
The branding is undeniably Australian, with it's main focus seeming to be creating friendships with customers.
Through the customer journey, the provider's underlying question seems to be, what can we do to help you mate?
Who is MATE?

Founded in 2015 in the wake of the NBN roll out, MATE is an all Australian internet service provider that claims to make the process simple.
The team at MATE say they put their customers first, with one of the founders saying that they act by the motto "treat customers how we would like to be treated". The provider won the 2019 Service Champion at the Australian Service Excellence Awards, so we can assume they treat their customers pretty well.
After growing 3,703% revenue in 3 years, it does seem like these mates are doing something right.
Who owns MATE?
MATE is owned by two brothers, David and Mark Fazio, and their business partner, Jonathan Dundovic. They delved into the market when they realised that the NBN was moving and shaking the Australian internet marketplace.
In an interview, David said that he realised for the first time in a long time, people were actively looking for deals. The partners say that they wanted to make the whole process less confusing for customers.
MATE NBN Plans
MATE offers the usual NBN tiers with some slightly different names. Every plan with MATE has no set up fees, contracts or data limits. The only difference between the plans is the speed:
- NBN 12 (Basic) speed AKA. good mates nbn - best for small households of 1-2 people
- NBN 50 (Standard Plus) speed AKA. best mates nbn - best for medium-size households of 3-4 people
- NBN 100 (Premium) speed AKA. soul mates nbn - best for larger households of 5+ people as well as anyone who regularly downloads or uploads large files
If none of these tickle your fancy, then take a look at our most popular NBN plans.
What makes MATE different?
MATE has made it pretty clear that it wants to be friends, and you'd expect your mates to hook you up. The provider's goal is to make things simple, which in this case means;
- no contracts, ever
- unlimited data
- Australian based support
- no set up fees
- no plan change fees
- 1 month, risk free guarantee
A standout has to be their one month, risk free guarantee. If you're not stoke with your NBN service, MATE promise to refund you your plan fee in full. This includes the cost of any modem purchased through them, provided you return it in "as new" condition.
How to sign up to a MATE plan?
