Internet in Australia has come a long way. What started with dial up speeds of 56kbps, is now the NBN with speeds up to 1000Mbps. That's right, Australian internet is now pretty much a million times faster than it was 20 years ago.
Well, at least for some of us.
NBN speeds above 100Mbps aren’t available to everyone, but they’re becoming more prevalent. If you’re looking for the fastest internet you can get, then here are all the places you can find them.

Right now all FTTP and HFC connections should be able to get a Superfast NBN plan, but no other technology types are eligible. In saying that, up to two million households currently on FTTN may be or soon become eligible for a free upgrade to FTTP. Check if your suburb is on the list.
Are any acronyms on this page confusing?
The NBN isn't exactly simple, but we've simplified it. Take a look at our complete NBN glossary to get up to date on any temrs you're not familiar with.
NBN 1000 plans
Dubbed as Ultrafast plans, NBN 1000 can achieve download speeds of up to 1Gbps, and 50Mbps upload. These are the absolute fastest NBN plans available right now - at least until we find a way to make them faster!

Similar to NBN 250 plans, not every connection is able to get gigabit download speeds although this number is improving. For now all FTTP households, and 58% of HFC connections can get NBN 1000 with the plan being that 94% will be able to achieve these speeds by the end of 2021. No other technology type is currently able to get Ultrafast NBN, but if you’re one of the lucky FTTN suburbs eligible for a free upgrade to FTTP then you’re just counting down until it is your time in the fast lane.
The fastest NBN for other technology types
While Super and Ultrafast NBN simply isn’t a reality for a lot of us, you can still get internet that is pretty damn speedy. Pretty much every fixed line connection type - some FTTN excluded - is capable of achieving speeds up to 100Mbps. While that number looks small next to 1000Mbps, it is still incredibly fast. With 100Mbps you can have Netflix streaming, in HD, simultaneously on 20 screens.
Here are the cheapest NBN 100 plans available right now.
