Optus Sport has been on death's door for a while and with its dying breath it has bequeathed Stan Sport with its subscribers, and content. Moving forward Stan Sport will house the Premier League, the Emirates FA Cup, the UEFA Women's Euro, and the Women's Soccer League while Optus will facilitate a transfer of subscribers and continue to foot part of the bill.

According to a Nine Entertainment ASX announcement, Stan will pay an upfront fee of $20 million, and make a contribution to the first payment for the next Premier League rights cycle. Optus will continue to pay an undisclosed amount to Nine for further rights until 2028, which should leave Nine in the green even after the acquisition cost.

As part of the deal all Optus Sport subscribers will be able to transfer their subscription over to Stan Sport, at no extra cost to most existing customers. Various offers will be available depending on customer eligibility, but for the most part current customers will be able to register for Stan with their Optus Sport email and continue paying their current rate. For those subscribed through SubHub, that will stay at $9.99/mth, or $24.99/mth for those outside of the ecosystem.

WhistleOut understands these price freezes will hold for the next three EPL seasons, but there are a few caveats. All migrated subscribers will receive Stan Premium (valued at $22/mth), included in the $9.99/mth cost, until January 2026. After that time subscribers will need to opt in to one of Stan's entertainment packages on top of the $9.99/mth Stan Sport subscription to retain access, but there will be a discounted rate available for those who came from Optus Sport. We don't have any information on what these discounts will look like just yet however.

Subscribers will still be able to watch Optus Sport until August 1, after which the content will no longer be available. Annual subs will receive a prorated refund based on this end date.

All Optus Sport subscribers will be contacted before the migration is completed with further information about discount and refund eligibility, and how to get set up on Stan Sport.
