Last month, Aussie streamer Stan announced it would follow the herd of major streaming services by introducing a cheaper ad-supported tier at $9.99 per month. Today, parent company Nine Digital revealed that the Stan Basic with Ads plan will replace the current Basic plan ($12 per month), and that ad-free customers on Standard and Premium will pay more every month.
Starting in August (or customers' next billing date), Stan Basic users will be automatically shifted to Stan Basic with Ads. The obvious downside here is that Stan Basic users who never had to sit through ad-breaks will now have to, but they will also pay a cheaper monthly fee and be upgraded from Standard Definition to High Definition streaming on a single device.
Beginning today (or next billing cycle for existing customers), Stan Standard and Stan Premium will also cost more. Stan Standard's ad-free HD plan for two devices will cost $17.99 per month (up from $17 per month), whereas Stan Premium's ad-free 4K plan for four devices will now cost $23.99 per month (up from $22 per month). Essentially, you're looking at a minimum of $8 per month or $96 per year to remove ads on Stan.

How much does Stan cost now?
The updated pricing for Stan Standard and Premium are effective immediately for new subscribers. Existing customers will be notified via email about the price hike, but it will most likely come into effect in the next billing cycle.
At the time of writing, new customers can still sign up for ad-free Stan Basic for $12 per month, but they too will be moved to the cheaper ad-supported plan in short order.
Below is the up-to-date pricing structure for new Stan customers at the time of writing.
When the price changes roll out, Stan Basic users will save $24.12 per year and be upgraded to HD streaming, but will have to suffer unskippable ad breaks. Stan Standard and Premium subscribers will pay an additional $11.88 and $23.88 per year, respectively, for the same inclusions.
Stan doesn't offer an annual subscription, so like it or not, these changes are coming for you and soon. If you're not too excited about paying more to avoid ads, your best course of action is to cancel your service and shop around for a better deal.
