TV lovers now have greater flexibility in how they put together a subscription to Pay TV service Foxtel, but shouldn’t expect things to be cheaper necessarily.

Foxtel’s revamp of pricing and package structures goes live today, with the entry level package dropping in price to $25 per month. The number of additional channel packages has increased from five to seven, offering more flexibility in getting exactly what you want to pay for.

The overall price of subscribing to all channels hasn’t changed much though, with a Platinum HD pack costing $134 per month. Customers who identify channel packs they don’t want will come out on top.

Channel package monthly pricing:

  • Entertainment (basic package): $25
  • Sport: $25
  • Entertainment Plus: $10
  • Movies: $20
  • Docos: $10
  • Drama: $20
  • Kids: $10

Box Sets

Perhaps the most exciting change to Foxtel is the addition of Box Sets, a one-stop shop for TV junkies looking to watch episodes of favourite shows back to back. Box Sets is a live channel and will play episodes of shows in a cycle, like regular channel, but all content will be available on demand so customers can pick and choose what to watch and in which order.

Those familiar with IPTV options like Quickflix and Netflix will understand what an important change this is for Foxtel to make. No other on demand service in Australia offers access to such an expansive range of complete TV series, and by Foxtel’s calculations, purchasing all of the available TV content from a service like iTunes would cost $1600.

Box Sets is available to customers who choose the Premium Drama channel pack for $20 per month, or as a stand alone channel for $10 per month. Shows included in the package at launch are:

  • Game of Thrones – Seasons 1-4
  • The Sopranos – Seasons 1-6
  • Big Love – Seasons 1-5
  • The Newsroom – Seasons 1-2
  • Rome – Seasons 1-2
  • Band of Brothers - Miniseries
  • The Pacific – Miniseries
  • Entourage – Seasons 1-8
  • Wentworth – Seasons 1-2
  • Angels in America – Miniseries
  • Luck – Season 1
  • Absolutely Fabulous – Seasons 1-5
  • True Blood – Seasons 1-7
  • Boardwalk Empire – Seasons 1-5
  • Getting On
  • Looking – Season 1
  • Girls – Seasons 1-3
  • Dexter – Seasons 1-7
  • The Borgias – Seasons 1-3
  • Sex and the City – Seasons 1-6
  • Devil’s Playground – Season 1
  • Morden – Season 1
