Amazon Fire Stick HD 2026 - Australia

Amazon has announced an Australian release for the new Fire TV Stick HD that’s cheaper, slimmer and more portable and it’s available for pre-order now.

Amazon says the new Fire TV Stick HD is roughly 30% faster and 30% slimmer than previous HD models but perhaps most importantly, it has been optimised so that it can be powered directly from your television’s USB port, meaning you won’t need to juggle precious power outlet space.

Fire TV Stick HD 2026: What’s new?

In addition to the slimmer profile and faster processing, the new Fire TV Stick HD launches with a redesigned interface, Wi-Fi 6 support and Bluetooth 5.3. It’s also compatible with Xbox Game Pass and Fire TV’s ‘Ambient Experience’, which transforms traditional televisions into smart displays that can display curated art collections, display the time and weather and play audio even when the television’s not in use. It’s kind of like Samsung Frame TV on a budget.

It also replaces the old micro-USB port with a USB-C port, not that you will need it as much. One of the best features of the new Fire TV Stick HD is that it can be powered by the USB port on an old HDMI-ready television. So while it’s capable of being powered by USB-C, you don’t need to take up any real estate on your power outlet if you’ve got a free USB-A port on your telly, and you most certainly do.
