With Stan and Disney’s deal seemingly approaching its endgame, the Australian streaming service has locked down a new content deal that will see some of Paramount’s top TV shows and movies added to its library.
The new agreement with Paramount will not only see upcoming shows, like the TV adaptation of John Green’s Looking for Alaska (October), streamed exclusively on the platform but some of the studio’s biggest blockbuster franchises, like Star Trek, Mission Impossible, and Transformers will also find a new home on Stan.
While Netflix continues to pump out original TV shows and movies (to mixed success) and Foxtel takes its HBO partnership down with the flaming wreckage, Stan has been a busy bee, pollinating its platform with some sweet streaming exclusives from the likes of MGM, Starz and Showtime. These partnerships have seriously bolstered Stan’s repertoire, giving it access to iconic franchises like Rocky and the entire Bond collection.
What does the new partnership mean for Stan subscribers?
The recent Disney+ announcement would seem to suggest that the likes of Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar will be ending their lease with Stan and moving into their own House of Mouse this November.
It’s high time for Stan to start expanding its streaming portfolio so there’s more on offer by the time its partnership with Disney expires. And there’s plenty to enjoy too. In fact, Stan is quickly becoming a bastion for blockbuster studios that aren’t interested in launch their own streaming app down under.
If you do decide to stick around past October, you can enjoy the TV shows and movies mentioned above, as well as more fresh TV shows in production, such as Martin Scorcese’s The Devil in the White City, the upcoming adaptation of Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles, and Tony McNamara’s (The Favourite) new series The Great.
