America’s ABC (American Broadcasting Company) has enjoyed enduring success with its somewhat lighthearted police procedural, The Rookie, since its premiere in 2018. The Nathan Fillion-led cop show about a recently divorced LAPD rookie cop in his mid-40s seems to have struck a chord with older and younger audiences alike. Despite being eight seasons deep, it has only grown in popularity, with a huge uptick in viewership for seasons seven and eight, particularly among Gen Z.
Despite this growing universal success, Australians continue to be left behind when it comes to the latest episodes. Streaming The Rookie in Australia isn't very straightforward. In fact, it can be downright frustrating if you've signed up to one streaming service, only to find it's streaming five or six of the eight seasons available.
Here's how to watch every season of The Rookie in Australia (even season eight with some effort).

How to watch The Rookie in Australia

Here in Australia, The Rookie Season 8 will land first on 7Plus but not for quite some time. For example, The Rookie Season 7 aired its finale in May 2025 in the US, but it didn't make it to 7Plus until August later that year. Season 8 seems to be on the same release schedule, so we can expect it to land on 7Plus around mid-August.
How to watch The Rookie Season 8 now
If you're not willing to wait until August for The Rookie Season 8, there is a slightly more complicated way of watching it at the same time as the US. Using a VPN like ExpressVPN or NordVPN, you can access Hulu in the US by cloaking your location. There are a few steps involved, including purchasing a Hulu gift card online for payment. But if you're desperate, it can be done. Our sister site Reviews.org provides a detailed step-by-step guide for accessing Hulu from Australia.
With that said, Hulu is just one option for streaming The Rookie Season 8. With a VPN, you might have better luck accessing the UK's NOWTV, Canada's Crave or even New Zealand's free catch-up service TVNZ+, which already has the first three episodes of Season 8.

What is The Rookie about?
The Rookie is a fairly light-hearted police prodecural series that you could almost classify as a sitcom, or dramedy, at times. It begins with a recently divorced 45-year-old man, John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), who heads to Los Angeles to kickstart a career in the LAPD. His late-in-life career shift makes him the oldest police rookie on staff.
Well, that's how it begins, at least. With seven seasons in the can and an eighth currently airing, John Nolan has come a long way in his seven years in the force. Later seasons see him taking on more senior roles, sheperding the next generation of rookies.
