Just over a month since its theatrical debut in Australia, Mattel's modern-day live-action adaptation of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is being fast-tracked to home streaming courtesy of Amazon Prime Video. Directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee), the 2026 adaptation Masters of the Universe stars Nicholas Galitzine (The Sheep Detectives) in the lead role of Prince Adam (aka He-Man), who returns to his home planet Eternia to fend off the evil Skeletor.
Masters of the Universe premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Wednesday, July 22
How to watch Masters of the Universe in Australia
Unlike most recent releases, Masters of the Universe is not available on digital storefronts like Apple TV and YouTube (yet). That will make Amazon Prime Video the exclusive streaming destination for Masters of the Universe when it releases on July 22.
Amazon Prime Video costs $9.99 per month or $79 per year (saving $40.88), and it allows you to stream in up to 4K resolution on three devices at once. The plan included regular ad breaks, which can be removed at an additional cost of $2.99 per month.
Amazon Prime Video also offers a 30-day free trial, so if you don't have any interest in staying subscribed, you can sign up for the free trial then cancel after watching Masters of the Universe.
Fun fact: You will also find the 1987 Masters of the Universe (starring Dolph Lundgren) and two seasons of the 2002 cartoon reboot on Amazon Prime Video.
Watch Masters of the Universe on Prime VideoWith all that said, there are other benefits to having an Amazon Prime subscription, such as free or discounted shipping through Amazon, Prime Reading (an on-demand library of ebooks) and Prime Music (Amazon's version of Spotify), so if you can find a deal on it, there are plenty of perks that can save you money on other services.
What is Masters of the Universe about?
In this rambunctious live-action remake, Prince Adam (He-Man) has been living on Earth ever since being transported there for his safety by The Sorceress of Castle Greyskull (Morena Baccarin) 15 years earlier. In that time, the nefarious sorcerer Skeletor (Jared Leto) has taken control of Prince Adam's homeland, Eternia.
When Adam - now working in HR in Oklahoma City - finally reunites with the Sword of Power, a beacon alerts both the good and evil Eternian forces of Adam's location, and before too long he is reunited with his childhood friend and leader of the Guardians of Eternia, Teela (Camila Mendes). Returning to Eternia, Adam joins the exiled Guardians in their fight to save Eternos from the clutches of Skeletor and Evil-Lyn (Alison Brie).
Masters of the Universe is a tongue-in-cheek reboot that knows how to have fun while also maintaining a deep reverence for the source material. And before you ask: yes, there is a reference to the vintage 4 Non Blondes meme.
