Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) in House of the Dragon

The obsession with Westeros, bloody battles and dragons continues growing strong 15 years on in the form of several Game of Thrones spin-offs and prequel TV series.

And this year, House of the Dragon is returning with its third season, plus a fourth already locked in for 2028. Here's everything you can expect from the latest season and when it's available to stream.

Where can I watch House of the Dragon Season Three?

It used to be that all HBO Max content, like Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, were available on Binge and, therefore, Foxtel (or Foxtel Now) too.

However, with HBO Max launching a standalone streaming service in Australia in mid-2025 (2020 in the US), it has taken back all its original content for its own collection.

In saying that, with Paramount Plus' buyout of Warner Bros Discovery, and thus HBO Max, it's highly likely HBO Max will merge with Paramount Plus in the near future. But for now, you can get all your HBO Originals straight from the source.

When does House of the Dragon Season 3 release?

On Sunday June 21 HBO Max will begin streaming the third season of House of the Dragon.

At the time of writing, the first three episodes will reportedly drop at the same time. Then a new episode will air weekly every Sunday until all eight episodes for the season are released, ending in early-August.

What is House of the Dragon?

House of the Dragon dives into the history before the Game of Thrones storyline takes place. It focuses on the Targaryen bloodline and how they forged a strong presence in Westeros, 172 years before Daenerys Targaryen was even born.

As with all Game of Thrones content, expect blood, gore, politics, deceit, family rivalries and dragons galore.

What other Game of Thrones spin-offs are there?

At the time of writing, there are two prequel series - House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. However, there are rumours of five others, including Aegon's Conquest and Ten Thousand Ships.

For a breakdown on all we know of these so far, check out our comprehensive guide to the upcoming Game of Thrones spin-offs and prequels.

How does HBO Max compare?

Price

Compared to the various other streaming apps available, HBO Max sits about middle of the pack in terms of price, averaging $15.99 per month for a standard plan. You can get away with a cheaper ad tier for $11.99 per month of, as mentioned above, save up to 17% by committing to an annual plan.

Content

HBO Max produces a LOT of original content, maybe more than you think. This includes Euphoria, The Pitt, Succession, The Last of Us, The Sopranos, The White Lotus, Barry, Curb Your Enthusiasm and And Just Like That... just to name it's more popular titles.

Furthermore, because HBO Max falls under Warner Bros. Discovery, it also has a whole host of popular and Academy Award-winning films, including Wuthering Heights, Sinners, One Battle After Another, Weapons, Barbie, Superman, Interstellar, the Dune trilogy, all the Harry Potter films, The Lord of the Rings series and The Hobbit trilogy.
