Prisoner Season 1

Created by Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies), this new British thriller from Sky sees a prison transport officer caught in the firing line when a battle breaks out in London's criminal underground.

Said officer, Amber Todd (Izuka Hoyle), is escorting a notorious hitman, Tibor Stone (Tahar Rahim), to The Old Bailey in London so Stone can testify against an organised criminal syndicate. When their convoy is ambushed, Amber and Tibor are the only survivors; handcuffed together, the cop and the criminal must work together to survive.

Prisoner premieres May 5 with the first two episodes, after which episodes will release weekly on Tuesdays.

Bugonia

Nominated for Best Picture at this year's Academy Awards, Bugonia is the latest from prolific Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite, Poor Things). This English-language remake of the 2003 South Korean flick Save the Green Planet! is a breathtaking thriller that packs a punch with a fairly small cast, with unforgettable performances from Emma Stone (nominated for Best Actress), Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis and Stavros Halkias.

When conspiracy theorist cousins Teddy Gatz (Plemons) and Don (Delbis) kidnap a big pharma CEO, Michelle Fuller (Stone), it's revealed that Teddy believes Michelle to be an Andromedan, a malevolent alien species responsible for killing the bees and brainwashing humanity. When Michelle's corporate-trained attempts at negotiation are rebuffed, Teddy gives her four days to broker a meeting with the Andromedan overlords. As Teddy grows increasingly violent, Michelle's only choice is to play into the fantasy long enough to survive.

Bugonia lands on Binge on Thursday, May 21.
