Netflix is going on One Last Adventure with Stranger Things this month

Whether you’re delighted with the divisive Stranger Things finale, or you’re one of the tinfoil-hat-wearing hopefuls who believe the series isn’t truly over, every fan has something to look forward to this month when Netflix releases One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5 on January 12.

How WhistleOut Works

The upcoming documentary will serve as a send-off and celebration for the hit sci-fi fantasy series that began almost a decade ago. The feature-length special will follow the cast, creators, and crew as they tackle the impossible mission of closing out the final chapter of Stranger Things.

It probably goes without saying, but One Last Adventure is strictly for those who have already watched the final season and are ready to move on.

In true Stranger Things fashion, creators the Duffer Brothers (Matt and Ross Duffer) harken back to a simpler time of DVD extras and behind-the-scenes featurettes when discussing the One Last Adventure special:

“Growing up in Durham, North Carolina, we dreamed of becoming filmmakers — but Hollywood felt impossibly far away. Everything changed when we watched the behind-the-scenes documentaries for The Lord of the Rings — on-the-ground films that showed the real nuts and bolts of how a massive production actually gets made.”

“We saw how stressed Peter Jackson was and thought: yep, that’s the dream. With the decline of physical media, that kind of behind-the-scenes storytelling has largely disappeared,” the Stranger Things creators explain. “We wanted to bring it back. One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things Season 5 — beautifully captured and directed by Martina Radwan — is our attempt to do just that. If you love Stranger Things, or if you’re simply curious how a major Hollywood production comes to life, this one’s for you.”

It might not be the “secret final episode” fans have been speculating about, but at least it will bring some closure for those still reeling from the monumental two-part finale.

As for what’s next? Stranger Things fans can look forward to an animated series set between seasons two and three titled Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85 is set to release in 2026.
