In an effort to replicate the outstanding success of Spidey and His Amazing Friends, Marvel and Disney are giving Tony Stark and his alter ego Iron Man the same toddler-fied treatment. Iron Man and His Awesome Friends will premiere exclusively on Disney Plus, beginning Tuesday, August 12.
The Disney Jr. series will release the first 10 episodes at once, with more episodes released periodically throughout the year. If you’re surprised by the excitement surrounding this announcement, don’t be. According to Nielsen reports, Spidey and His Amazing Friends, was the second most-watched streaming series behind Bluey in 2024, beating out Cocomelon and Paw Patrol.
It follows a young Tony Stark and his two super genius pals Riri Williams aka Ironheart and Amadeus Cho aka Iron Hulk, as they team up to protect the city from naughty villains like Ultron, Swarm and Absorbing Man. Just like Spidey and His Amazing Friends, the show will include a slew of cameos from other Marvel heroes, such as Black Panther, Captain America and Iron Spider.
Based on the brief trailer, the show won’t stray too far from Spidey’s episodic formula and will even feature a similarly pop-punk-powered theme song, courtesy of blink-182’s Mark Hoppus this time around - Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump provided the catchy theme song for Spidey and his Amazing Friends.
It’s not clear how much of Tony Stark’s background as a reformed weapons manufacturer and war profiteer will make the transition but these shows don’t tend to get too hung up on the canon. At the very least, parents will recognise some familiar names amongst the talented voice cast, with Arrested Development's Tony Hale taking on the evil robot Ultron and SNL’s Vanessa Bayer providing the voice for Swarm - a villain that’s a swarm of bees in the shape of a humanoid and also a Nazi (like I said, don’t think about it too much).
Sneak peek
If your kids can’t wait until August 12 for a taste, Disney Plus will be rolling out Meet Iron Man and His Awesome Friends, a series of ten animated shorts, ahead of the premiere, beginning Tuesday, July 15.
Disney Plus plans start at $15.99 per month for HD streaming on two devices and $20.99 per month for 4K streaming on four devices. Both the Standard and Premium plans are available at a discounted price if you sign up for a full year upfront.
With that said, there are a few ways you can avoid paying full price if you know where to look for a deal on Disney Plus.
