Apple TV has posted a mysterious countdown to its YouTube channel titled Happiness is Contagious; teasing Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan’s upcoming TV series. The countdown is set to conclude at 5:00 a.m. AEST on Saturday, July 26, when more information about the project will be revealed.
The thumbnail image features a yellow waxy substance in a petri dish with a smiley face carved into it but offers no other information about the series. With that said, previous interviews about the project shine a little more light on what to expect.
It was announced that Better Call Saul star Rhea Seehorn would play the lead character when the show's existence was first revealed, while actress Karolina Wyder (Sneaky Pete) was cast in a supporting role back in March.
The series has a rare two-season straight-to-series order, sight unseen. Which means, however it performs, we will be guaranteed at least two seasons. Apple and Sony Pictures clearly have a lot of confidence in the series, and it’s no wonder with hitmaker Vince Gilligan at the helm.
Little is known about the plot of the 10-episode first season, except that it will be a science-fiction drama set in an alternate reality. Gilligan has also said it’s a departure from the typical crime drama he’s known for and has jokingly referred to it as “Breaking Good”. As a Vince Gilligan joint, it was, of course, filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
