Disney has confirmed that today’s price increase of Disney Plus in the US won’t impact Australian subscribers. Despite prices increasing by about 20% per month for American customers, pricing for Disney Plus in Australia remains the same.
Over in the States, Disney Plus subscribers are up in arms over an ill-timed price increase has raised subscription prices by as much as US$3.00 per month. These latest price hikes come at a particularly thorny time in America. After the ABC (American Broadcasting Company) pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! from the air less than a week ago, fans and celebrities flooded social media, encouraging customers to cancel their Disney Plus subscriptions.
The search term “Cancel Disney Plus” spiked dramatically in Google Trends.
Just yesterday, it was announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would, in fact, return to air.
Price increases have become part and parcel with the streaming industry. In Australia alone, the price of Disney Plus has gone up four times since it first launched in November 2019 at a humble $8.99 per month. And while we may have dodged this one, there will always be another around the corner. Probably next February if Disney’s track record is anything to go by.
If all of this has left a bad taste in your mouth, price increase or not, it could be time to switch streaming services. Below is a comprehensive round-up of major Australian streaming services.
