Niche service BritBox has long been the go-to streaming platform for the best of British telly from the BBC.
Ever since it launched in Australia in 2020, it has remained relatively unchanged with the exception of a small $1 price increase early 2024.
That is until now, at least. This morning BritBox launched a revamped service exclusively for its Australian audiences that includes new features, content and pricing.
To begin with, the monthly price of BritBox is going up from $9.99 to $13.99 per month. Annual plans will also increase from $99.99 per year to $139.99 per year.
That’s a significant increase, but one that comes with a few benefits.
First of all is an expanded content offering of exclusives and premieres, with three big British shows premiering in June: Shetland Season 9, Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero and BBC comedy Mandy (which stars Cunk’s Diane Morgan.) There will also be a focus on delivering documentaries to BritBox subscribers.
The biggest change to the platform itself comes via three live channels: BBC First, BBC Entertain, and BBC Select. Curated by the team at BritBox, these channels will deliver a 24-hour live stream of premium drama, lifestyle and comedy, and documentaries.
Speaking with Reviews.org Australia, VP of International Markets and GM of BritBox Australia also confirmed that 4K content will be added to the service starting in August and that subscribers shouldn’t expect to see advertisements on the service any time soon: “It’s just not on the roadmap. We’ve heard very loudly from our audience that they really love that BritBox is ad-free, and we’re sticking with that.”
If you’re interested in checking out the new-and-improved BritBox, the service is still offering a seven-day free trial. Once your first seven days are up, you’ll pay the new price of $13.99 per month.
