Despite the story itself having yet begun, The Undoing sets the tone for the series from the very first scene. Enunciated by an ominous score, the dark cinematography adds a depth of distress to even the most commonplace moments.
HBO’s latest release which hits Binge on Monday is set amongst the backdrop of New York’s elite. Esteemed doctor Jonathan (played by Hugh Grant) and his wife Grace (played by Nicole Kidman) are navigating the politics of their son’s aristocratic private school.
When a new mother Eleanor enters the fold, her and Grace share a palpable tension, it’s intentions you can’t quite put your finger on. Before the end of the first episode it becomes abundantly clear that there’s more to this unnerving closeness than first meets the eye.
At the Australian Virtual Premiere, Kidman, who starred and co-produced the series said: “I’ve always made thrillers my whole life, and they’re unbelievably hard to make but I love the thriller. So to have something constructed of this magnitude and this complexity around a female character, it’s just such an extraordinary thing. A lot of it is shot right here, so there’s no faking anything it’s got to be felt because it’s all about Grace’s psychological journey.”
The six part psychological thriller will be released one episode per week on streaming platform Binge. Binge is an on-demand streaming platform powered by Foxtel and is the cheapest way to watch HBO favourites and other prestige content in Australia.
