
Following a very long engagement, Netflix has set a date for TV junkies in Australia and New Zealand, promising a service come March 2015, but not much else.
A statement from the US based media company confirms the arrival of the streaming service in this region, but does not give any indication of what it might cost or the extent of the library to be offered.
Netflix produced shows Bojack Horseman and Marco Polo are listed, as well the decade-old Matrix Trilogy, but not newer shows like Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead or even Netflix’s own House of Cards.
Concerned? We are. A Netflix launch might reveal the thing we always feared: that Foxtel holds exclusive rights to our favourite shows in Australia and not even the might of a media juggernaut like Netflix can wrestle these licenses from its grasp.
Not that we would expect Netflix to offer access to everything. We’re completely aware of the limitations of the Netflix service in the US. Hopefully it isn’t limit further in this market.
