Hubbl - Foxtel's new entertainment platform, set-top box, and TV - will be available to purchase from March 10. The set-top box will sell $99, while the TVs start at $1,595 for a 55-inch model.
Customers will be able to order either directly through the Hubbl website. The Hubbl set-top box will be available through JB HiFi and Harvey Norman, and Harvey Norman is also ranging the TV - known as Hubbl Glass.
Content aggregation is at the heart of the Hubbl pitch. The set-top box and TV both run software - also called Hubbl - that plops content from streaming services and free-to-air TV in the same interface.
At launch, Hubbl will support Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Apple TV Plus, Binge, Kayo, Flash, ABC iView, ABC Kids, SBS On Demand, 7Plus, 9Now, 10 Play, and Foxtel's new LifeStyle streaming service. Optus Sport, Paramount Plus, and Stan are said to be coming soon.
While platforms like Apple TV and Google TV work in a similar way, part of the Hubbl proposition is bundling subscriptions for a discount. Netflix, Binge, Kayo, Sport, Flash, and LifesSyle will initially be services that can be bundled. Users need to subscribe to at least three services to get a discount.
Customers get a $5 discount for subscribing to three services, $10 for four, and $15 for five. This discount will only last for 36 months, however.
We'll have reviews of the Hubbl set-top box and Hubbl Glass in the coming weeks.
