Do you hate it when Netflix tries to nudge you into watching the next episode of a show you're trying to savour? What about when Netflix insists on playing previews of its series du juor while you're just trying to find something to watch? Well you're in luck! As of today, Netflix now lets you turn off autoplay.
There are two different settings you can turn off: autoplay next episode in a series on all devices, and autoplay previews while browsing on all devices.
Autoplay next episode in a series refers the functionality where Netflix will play the next episode of the show you're watching without needing to select it. Autoplay previews while browsing on a device refers to when Netflix starts playing a trailer while you look for something to look.
No matter which you want to turn off, you'll find the settings in the same place. To turn off autoplay, follow these steps:
- Sign in to your Netflix account in a web browser
- Select Manage Profiles from the menu in the top right hand corner
- Click the profile you want to adjust settings for
- Untick autoplay next episode in a series or autoplay previews while browsing or both
- Click save
Netflix says there may be a delay before your new settings apply, but you can force an update by switching to another profile and then switching back to yours.
At present, there doesn't appear to be a way to turn off autoplay from the Netflix mobile app. We imagine this functionality will be added in a future update.
