Subscribers to Foxtel’s satellite subscribers in some areas of Australia will not have access to Foxtel’s technician services from September 1. The company is transferring full ownership of each subscriber’s satellite dish and associated cabling, making those sections of infrastructure the property of their customers.
But in doing so, satellite subscribers will be responsible for maintaining their satellite gear, which involves sourcing their own technician for repairs and maintenance – or performance maintenance themselves, should they choose to. You should check you’re qualified for any task before you perform it, however, as there are restrictions around some activities, such as cabling.
The Foxtel set-top box will remain the property of Foxtel and still be eligible for Foxtel technician servicing.
If you're a satellite subscriber in an affected area, Foxtel should already have reached out to you with regards to the changes and next steps.
A Foxtel representative told WhistleOut "We have communicated directly with impacted customers about the changes and continue to work through the best available solutions with them based on their individual circumstances and as they require."
Should they choose to, these Foxtel satellite customers can switch to an internet-based Foxtel service, the hardware for which Foxtel will provide free of charge. Doing so would mean Foxtel will continue to provide support services.
Internet-based Foxtel has identical content to Foxtel delivered over satellite. While an internet-based Foxtel service should provide the same experience as a satellite service in most cases, those with a poor internet connection may have a worse experience.

For those customers still waiting on an already-booked Foxtel technician, the company informed us any bookings made prior to September 1 will be honoured.
"Foxtel will still accept bookings from customers until September 1 and will work with our service providers to complete any jobs in a timely manner as we have always done," said the spokesperson. "We will advise customers at the time of booking about upcoming changes."
It also sounds like you still have time to book a Foxtel techie, if you get in before the end of August.
