Gogglebox is a TV show about people watching TV shows, and it seems like it might be sort of interesting.
Foxtel today released a short teaser promoting Gogglebox, showing a variety of living rooms, the people who live in them and the reactions of these people as they watch Foxtel TV shows.
If I’m completely honest, I rolled my eyes until I got a tension headache after I first heard about Gogglebox, but after seeing the promo, I’m now kind-of, sort-of intrigued. I’m not 100 percent sold on the concept, but there is something about it which might be fun to watch.
The teaser doesn’t give too much away. It shows a half a dozen different families watching TV together, with shots of them commenting, questioning and grimacing at the shows as they happen. It’s looks sort of like YouTube Reaction videos, except these people are probably watching the Kardashians rather than 2 girls 1 cup.
As with all Reality TV, the success of Gogglebox will boil down to who the producers choose as the subjects of the show. Goggle box guinea pigs need to opinionated without being annoying, erudite but not arrogant and most importantly, they need to funny — intentionally or otherwise.
If this sounds like your cup of tea, Gogglebox premieres on the Lifestyle Channel on Wednesday February 11 at 9:30pm, with a re-run the next night on free-to-air Channel 10.
