Foxtel will launch a new streaming service dedicated entirely to live news this October.
At launch, Flash will feature more than 20 local, and global news sources ready to stream on demand. However, Foxtel says that the service won’t be what the market expects it to be.
According to Foxtel Group CEO, Patrick Delany, “it will be more than simply aggregating live channels. Our experience and technology platform gives us the ability to draw on successful Kayo features and innovations to provide an outstanding news experience for our subscribers”.
Kayo was Foxtel’s first standalone streaming platform which focuses entirely on sports. Subscribers to Kayo can access features like SplitView, and Pop Out Player. SplitView allows viewers to watch up to four events simultaneously on a split screen, and Pop Out Player lets users continue to watch on a smaller pop-up screen on the desktop while using the computer as usual.
A Flash spokesperson confirmed that the platform will operate using the same technology platform underpinning Kayo. With that, and Delany’s comments we wouldn’t be surprised to see similar features to these available on Flash.
Flash will make for the third streaming service Foxtel has launched in as many years. In 2020 the pay-TV giant released Binge - a platform dedicated to movies and drama which holds one of Australia’s largest collections of HBO content.
More information will be available about the latest edition of Foxtel’s streaming portfolio on September 30.
