Apple today announced that it will hold its next product announcement event on March 25 (4am March 26, AEDT). The company is expected to use its keynote to unveil an entertainment streaming service (possibly similar to Netflix) and a subscription news service.
CEO Tim Cook confirmed Apple intends to create its own content at the company's most recent earning call, but details were scarce otherwise.
"We will participate in the original content world," said Cook. "We have signed a multiyear partnership with Oprah. But today, I’m not ready to extend the conversation beyond that point."
Apple reportedly has more than two dozen original TV shows in the works, involving talent such as Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner, and Steve Carell.
We don't know as much about Apple's news service, but it's said to allow subscribers to access paywalled content from multiple publications for a fee of USD$9.99 per month.
While the event is meant to be services focused, Apple could also use it to show off a couple of rumoured products, such as a new entry-level iPad, a seventh-generation iPod Touch, and refreshed AirPods.
