Amazon Prime Video has announced Prime Video Channels, and streaming TV is starting to feel a lot like picking out a Foxtel package again.
Prime Video Channels almost mirror traditional Foxtel’s channel packs. You can pick the genres you’re most interested in and add them to your subscription for an added monthly fee. Although, the modern spin is that these channels are additional streaming platforms.
Niche streaming services have cropped up all over the place in recent years, and Prime Video Channels let you consolidate up to 12 of these subscriptions into one bill and have them accessible from a singular platform.
Currently, you can access Paramount+, hayu, STARZPLAY, MGM, AMC+, Acorn TV, Shudder, OUTtv, The Great Courses, iwonder, DocPlay, and Love Nature through Prime Video Channels. Each streaming service is billed monthly, so at this time, you won’t be able to take advantage of discounted yearly pricing seen on platforms such as Paramount+ and Shudder.
You can, however, claim a seven-day free trial on each of the participating services through your Amazon Prime Video account, but aren’t able to link any existing accounts.
Amalgamating streaming services isn’t a new concept. Fetch TV boxes let you add streaming apps, the newest Chromecast with Google TV acts as a hub for your streaming services, and Optus’ recently released SubHub where you can control a range of subscriptions in one place.
For the most part, however, these amalgamations have come by using hardware that allows you to access your separate streaming platforms, or manage your accounts from one place. Prime Video Channels, on the other hand, integrates all your respective services through the Prime Video platform and doesn’t require any additional hardware to do so.
Prime Video Channels are available now through your Amazon Prime Video account.
