If you haven't heard of Heated Rivalry by now, you simply have not been living on Planet Earth for the past few weeks. The hit Canadian television series certainly isn't the first successful adaptation of a romance novel, but it's certainly one of the steamiest and most sincere. If you're just catching up, here's everything you need to know about streaming Heated Rivalry in Australia.
Dodo's NBN 500 Unlimited plan is our pick for the best NBN 500 plan for September.
How to watch Heated Rivalry in Australia
Heated Rivalry is an original production for Canadian streamer Crave (which explains the Ice Hockey factor). Here in Australia, it's distributed exclusively by HBO Max. HBO Max is a subscription service that starts at $11.99 per month for the Basic with ads plan, which offers ad-supported HD streaming on two devices. You can ditch the ads by paying $15.99 per month for Standard ad-free HD streaming on two devices, or $21.99 per month for Premium ad-free 4K streaming on four devices.
You can also save over $40 per year if you sign up to an annual plan. That's not the only way to get HBO Max for cheap, however. Foxtel is offering free HBO Max Basic to all customers on one of the following iQ plans.
All six episodes of Heated Rivalry Season 1 are available to stream already, which has people wondering, when will there be more? The show was greenlit for a second season almost immediately after its breakout success. With that said, it's in deep pre-production.
Showrunner Jacob Tierney was last quoted as saying he hasn't even started writing the second season yet. But recently, star Connor Storrie (Ilya Rozanov) revealed that production on the second season should start by June 2026.
That said, the first season had a very quick turnaround, releasing eight months after it started shooting. If Season 2 has a similarly smooth path to release, we should get Heated Rivalry Season 2 in early 2027, late 2026 if we're lucky.
What is Heated Rivalry about?
Adapted from Rachel Reid's romance novel series Game Changers, Heated Rivalry is a love story about two star-crossed lovers, ice hockey rivals Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie).
After their first meeting in Saskatchewan at the International Prospect Cup, Russian bad boy Ilya is drafted to Boston while Canadian boy scout Shane is drafted to Montreal. Once they make it to the big leagues, their rising status pushes the two hotshots closer and closer together and eventually their burning rivalry turns into burning desire.
Keeping their romance a secret proves to be difficult with the world watching their every move. Spanning just six episodes (and almost 10 years in-universe), Heated Rivalry feels like one of the most sincere love stories ever told on television.

How does HBO Max compare with other streaming services?
There's so much more to see on HBO Max. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, The Pitt, The White Lotus and Industry are just a few recent hits. With that said, HBO Max isn't necessarily the cheapest streaming service in Australia. Here's how it compares with other major streaming services:
