How to watch the AFL live
The men's AFL season features 18 clubs and typically runs from March to September across 25 rounds (in 2025). And to watch pretty much every AFL match in Australia, you're going to need a Kayo Sports subscription. Kayo Sports has all nine AFL Premiership Season matches live and on-demand each week.
Kayo offers two subscription options. The cheapest is Kayo Standard for $30 a month, which comes with one Full HD stream. Because every available AFL match is broadcast in 4K, you may want to consider Kayo Premium for $40 a month, which offers two streams in up to 4K quality.
Alternatively, you can get live AFL matches with a Foxtel Now subscription, but you will be paying more (admittedly, for more non-sports content). Foxtel Now with the Sports + Movies add-on normally costs $84 per month, while Foxtel Now Ultimate is $104 per month. Whichever Foxtel Now option you choose, you get two Full HD streams.
Footy fans who don't want a Kayo subscription should be heartened to hear that there are a bunch of free matches available on 7plus. The broadcasting rights are a dog's breakfast, with different disclaimers based on the state or territory you're watching from. According to 7plus, you need to share your device location to access the AFL content available to your region. Check out the table below for a breakdown of the free AFL content available on 7plus.

Where can I stream AFLW live?
The AFLW matches are shorter – games done in around two hours – with a briefer season of 10 rounds before the AFLW Finals. Given the shorter season, AFLW matches typically start in August and the AFLW Finals wrap up in November (at least for the 2025 season). You can catch every AFLW in-season match on Kayo Sports or Foxtel Now.
Where can I stream the AFL Grand Finals and AFLW Finals?
Whether you want the AFL Grand Finals or the AFL Finals (including the AFLW Grand Final), you want a 7plus subscription. Admittedly, that won't get you everything. The men's AFL Finals take place over four weeks, with weeks one to three available on 7plus and Kayo (or Foxtel Now's sports channels). For all four weeks of AFL Finals, you'll want a Kayo subscription.
For the men's AFL Grand Final, that'll stream live on 7plus, so you'll need a 7plus account even if you're a Kayo subscriber for that match. AFLW Finals broadcasting rights are, mercifully, more straightforward: all of the Finals matches and the AFLW Grand Final are broadcast live on 7plus.
What is Kayo Sports?
Kayo Sports is a standalone version of the Sports add-on for Foxtel Now. With a Kayo Sport subscription, you'll get access to the greatest number of sports in Australia, including AFL, NRL, cricket, tennis, and American sports like NFL, basketball, and baseball. The big disclaimer is that DAZN is now the owner of Foxtel, so it's anticipated that Kayo content will eventually shift to DAZN.

How does Kayo Sports compare?
Kayo is still the best sports streaming service in Australia if you're after a quantity of popular sports. While the price keeps creeping up, Kayo is the only place to watch the vast majority of AFL, NRL, and cricket matches in Australia.
It's improved since launch, offering a mix of live channels – including dedicated options for popular sports – individually highlighted live matches and replays. For popular sports, the replays are typically available as full matches or shorter 'Minis' (highlights packages). If you miss a live match that you're keen to experience fresh, Kayo has a no-spoilers toggle that's well worth enabling. Alternatively, skip to key match moments on longer replays.
Most Kayo content streams at Full HD resolution, but more 4K content is appearing for Kayo Premium subscribers, most notably for AFL and NRL matches. Like Netflix and other entertainment streaming services, Kayo also offers user profiles, which helps personalise the sports you're being fed on the homepage. And if you've got a compatible device, Kayo also offers SplitView so you can stream multiple sports at the same time on the one screen.
