The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards took place earlier this week, celebrating some of the best television of the year and the talent behind and in-front of the camera making the magic happen. It was a packed show with streaming services taking the lion’s share of the wins on the night.
While the ceremony was dominated by a handful of shows from Netflix, Apple TV+, and HBO Max, there were, as always, a few nice surprises, and a bunch of premium TV shows to add to the watchlist.
If you didn't catch the awards live, we've rounded up the biggest winners of the night below and where to stream them.
Adolescence - Netflix

Netflix Original Adolescence generated a lot of awards buzz when it first premiered in March, and that buzz has followed it all the way to the Emmys. The four-part crime drama miniseries nabbed eight nominations and won six awards on the night. In addition to Best Limited or Anthology Series, Stephen Graham took home Best Lead Actor in a Limited Series while co-stars Erin Doherty and Owen Cooper were awarded Best Supporting Actress and Actor in a Limited Series.
Won:
- Best limited or anthology series
- Best lead actor in a limited series - Stephen Graham

- Best writing for a limited series - Stephen Graham
Additional nominations:

Adolescence is available exclusively on Netflix. It was the streamer's only winning show this year, though more were nominated across various categories, including The Diplomat, Nobody Wants This, The Four Seasons, The Residence, Sirens, Black Mirror, and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
Dodo's NBN 500 Unlimited plan is our pick for the best NBN 500 plan for September.

The Studio - Apple TV+

After Adolescence, the second-biggest winner of the night was The Studio from Apple TV+. Nominated for seven awards, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's industry satire took home four awards on the night. Seth Rogen himself took home Best Directing in a Comedy Series and Best Actor in a Comedy Series. The core supporting cast, Kathryn Hahn, Catherine O'Hara, and Ike Barinholtz, were also nominated

The Pitt - HBO Max

I haven't watched The Pitt, but I have watched a lot of ER. So a modern-day ER (with complimentary Noah Wyle) that's worthy of three Emmy Awards is a promising proposition. That's especially true considering The Pitt plays out like the 24 of medical dramas, with each episode covering one full hour of a fifteen-hour shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center's emergency room.
Won:
- Best drama series
- Best lead actor in a drama series - Noah Wyle
- Best supporting actress in a drama series - Katherine LaNasa
Additional nominations:
- Best writing for a drama series - Joe Sachs
- Best writing for a drama series - R. Scott Gemmill
- Best directing for a drama series - Amanda Marsalis
- Best directing for a drama series - John Wells
Collectively, the 15 episodes of The Pitt were worthy of Best Drama Series at the 2025 Emmy Awards. HBO Max had a hot run at this year's Primetime Emmys. The Pitt was HBO's biggest winner, but it was followed closely by Hacks for wins (two wins) and The Penguin for nominations (seven nominations).
Creator: R. Scott Gemmill | Cast: Noah Wyle, Katherine LaNasa, Shawn Hatosy, Taylor Dearden, Tracy Ifeachor
Language: English | Rating: MA15+
Genre: Medical drama
Exclusive on: HBO Max
Hacks - Stan

With four consecutive Emmy wins in the category, 2026 might be the year we rename the Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series awards to simply the Jean Smart Award. Jean Smart has been nominated for the award every year since 2020, but it's her leading role in Hacks as acclaimed stand-up comedian Deborah Vance that has secured the win four years running. Smart’s 2025 Emmy Award win was extra special as it was the first year her co-star Hannah Einbinder won for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series too.
Won:
- Best lead actress in a comedy series - Jean Smart
- Best supporting actress in a comedy series - Hannah Einbinde
Additional nominations:
- Best comedy series
- Best writing for a comedy series - Lucia Aniello, Paul W Downs and Jen Statsky
- Best directing for a comedy series - Lucia Aniello
Hacks is a HBO Max production, but it launched here in Australia as a Stan exclusive, so that’s where you will find all four seasons of the award-winning comedy. There aren’t any other winners streaming on Stan, but HBO Max had a few additional wins with The Pitt, The Penguin, and Somebody Somewhere.
Creators: Lucia Aniello, Jen Statsky, Paul W. Downs | Cast: Jean Smart, Hannah Einbinder, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Megan Stalter
Language: English | Rating: MA15+
Genre: Comedy

Severance - Apple TV+

Ben Stiller’s workplace sci-fi drama, Severance, nabbed 10 nominations for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, which is a huge achievement in itself. Better yet, two of the cast members took home awards for their respective categories. Britt Lower, who plays the office newbie Helly R., took out the Best Lead Actress in a drama series award, while Tramell Tillman won the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award for his unnerving portrayal of mysterious middle manager Milchick.
Won:
- Best lead actress in a drama series - Britt Lower
- Best supporting actor in a drama series - Tramell Tillman
Additional nominations:
- Best drama series
- Best lead actor in a drama series - Adam Scott
- Best supporting actress in a drama series - Patricia Arquette
- Best supporting actor in a drama series - Zach Cherry
- Best supporting actor in a drama series - John Turturro
- Best writing for a drama series - Dan Erickson
- Best directing for a drama series - Jessica Lee Gagné for "Chikhai Bardo"
- Best directing for a drama series - Ben Stiller for "Cold Harbor"
Severance is an Apple TV+ exclusive. There are two seasons and 19 episodes in total to stream. Other Apple TV+ shows that took home awards this year include The Studio and Slow Horses, while Shrinking, Disclaimer, and Presumed Innocent were all nominated.

The Penguin - HBO Max

One of the more controversial moments of this year’s Emmy Awards was when Colin Farrell didn’t win Best Lead Actor in a Limited Series for his prosthetic-heavy portrayal of Oswald Cobb in The Penguin. It’s an uphill battle for comic book adaptations to win the favour of awards judges, but there’s no doubt in my mind that Colin Farrell deserved his flowers for this role. Likewise, for Deirdre O’Connell, who played the elderly Cobb matriarch with a steadily declining mental health. But sometimes, life only gives you one pickle, and this year, Cristin Millioti really deserved that pickle, taking home the award for Best Lead Actress in a Limited Series for her portrayal of Sofia Gigante/Falcone.
Won:
- Best lead actress in a limited series - Cristin Millioti
Additional nominations:
- Best limited series
- Best lead actor in a limited series - Colin Farrell
- Best supporting actress in a limited series - Deirdre O'Connell
- Best directing for a limited series - Jennifer Getzinger for "A Great or Little Thing"
- Best directing for a limited series - Helen Shaver for "Cent'Anni"
- Best writing for a limited series - Lauren LeFranc for "A Great or Little Thing"
The Penguin originally released on Binge in Australia but all eight episodes are now exclusive to HBO Max now that it has officially launched in Australia. HBO Max barely missed at this year’s Emmy Awards, taking home awards for The Penguin, The Pitt, Hacks and Somebody Somewhere.
Creator: Lauren LeFranc | Cast: Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, Deirdre O'Connell and Rhenzy Feliz
Language: English | Rating: MA15+
Genre: Crime drama
Exclusive on: HBO Max
Slow Horses - Apple TV+

Slow Horses has had its fair share of accolades ever since the spy thriller series premiered in 2022, but its global recognition has taken a few years to catch up. In 2024, Slow Horses was finally nominated for a range of Primetime Emmy Awards for its third season. The five nominations included Best Drama Series and Best Lead Actor for Gary Oldman, but it was series writer Will Smith who took home the award for Best Writing for a Drama Series. In 2025, Slow Horses, Gary Oldman, and Will Smith were all nominated again, but this time Adam Randall was awarded Best Director for a Drama Series, specifically for the Season 4 finale “Hello Goodbye”.
Won:
- Outstanding directing for a drama series - Adam Randall
Additional nominations:
- Best lead actor in a drama series - Gary Oldman
- Best writing for a drama series - Will Smith
- Best drama series
All four seasons of Slow Horses are available to stream on Apple TV+ with the fifth season premiering September 24.
Creator: Will Smith | Cast: Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Sophie Okenedo
Language: English | Rating: MA15+
Genre: Spy thriller

Andor - Disney+

If The Penguin was an unlikely award candidate due to its comic book origins, then the critical success of Andor is nothing short of a miracle. The sequel TV series to a prequel movie to the original 1977 Star Wars film felt like one of Disney’s craziest gambles when it was first announced. It was peak Star Wars oversaturation. Then the show came out.
The story of how Cassian Andor came to join – and become an integral part of – the Rebellion took everyone by surprise. It was proof that you can have your Star War and some meaningful political commentary too. Showrunner Tony Gilroy has received ample praise for the series but it was actually his brother Dan Gilroy who took home the award for Best Writing for a Drama Series at the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards. The winning episode was “Welcome to the Rebellion”, which also scored director Janus Metz a nomination.
Won:
- Best writing for a drama series - Dan Gilroy for "Welcome to the Resistance"
Additional nominations:
- Best drama series
- Best directing in a drama series - Janus Metz
Seasons 1 and 2 of Andor are exclusive to Disney Plus. Thankfully, that’s also where you’ll find Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and every other Star Wars movie and TV show, for that matter. It’s also where you’ll find this year’s sci-fi hit Alien: Earth, which is sure to make an appearance at next year’s Emmy Awards.
Creator: Tony Gilroy | Cast: Diego Luna, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Stellan Skarsgård, Kyle Soller, Genevieve O'Reilly
Language: English | Rating: M
Genre: Sci-fi drama
Exclusive on: Disney Plus
Somebody Somewhere - HBO Max

Jeff Hiller took home the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Joel in Somebody Somewhere, the main character’s co-worker and friend. Dubbed a “surprise win” by many outlets, Jeff Hiller’s accolade should come as no surprise to anyone who has ever watched a few minutes of the HBO comedy-drama.
Won:
- Best supporting actor in a comedy series - Jeff Hiller
Additional nominations:
- Best writing for a comedy series - Hannah Bos, Paul Thureen and Bridget Everett
Somebody Somewhere was also nominated for Best Writing for a Comedy Series (Hannah Bos, Paul Thureen, Bridget Everett). The show is streaming exclusively on HBO Max in Australia.
Creator: Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen | Cast: Bridgett Everett, Jeff Hiller, Murray Hill and Mike Hagerty
Language: English | Rating: MA15+
Genre: Comedy
Exclusive on: HBO Max
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver - Binge

Won:
- Best scripted variety series
- Best writing for a variety series
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver did one better than The Traitors, taking home both awards it was nominated for; Best Scripted Variety Series and Best Writing for a Variety Series. It’s been a rough year for Late Night television, so it’s nice to see one of the most severely critical of the lot get its flowers. Not that Last Week Tonight is a stranger to the Primetime Emmy Awards. The show has been nominated every year since 2015, and not a year has gone by where it hasn't taken home at least one award.
Host: John Oliver | Writers: Daniel O'Brien, Owen Parsons, Charlie Redd, Joanna Rothkopf, Seena Vali, Johnathan Appel, Ali Barthwell, Tim Carvell, Liz Hynes, Ryan Ken, Sofía Manfredi, John Oliver, Taylor Kay Phillips and Chrissy Shackelford
Language: English | Rating: MA15+
Genre: Crime drama

Saturday Night Live - Binge

Won:
- Best live variety special - SNL50: The Anniversary Special
Additional nominations:
- Best writing for a variety series
- Best scripted variety series
- Best supporting actor in a comedy series - Bowen Yang
Saturday Night Live is in a weird place. In the year of its 50th Anniversary, it seems more popular than ever and also more closely criticized when it comes to the actual work environment. The SNL 50 Anniversary Special was a solid reflection of the sketch show’s storied history and was worthy of the Best Live Variety Special Award. Full-time player Bowen Yang not only broke ground as the first-ever Chinese-American cast member but quickly became one of the most memorable performers on the show in recent years, earning a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series this year. But at the same time, Lorne Michaels seems to be cycling through younger performers faster than ever while certain writers and performers at the top remain in their cushy positions despite years of flack from viewers.
Creator: Lorne Michaels | Cast: Bowen Yang, Heidi Gardner, Mikey Day, Sarah Sherman, James Austin Johnson, Chloe Fineman, Ego Nwodim, Marcello Hernández, Kenan Thompson, Andrew Dismukes, Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker, Colin Jost and Michael Che

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert - Paramount+

Won:
- Best talk series
The 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards were bittersweet (but mostly bitter) for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert fans. Sure, it took home the Emmy for Best Talk Series, but the show is ending its decade-long reign in 2026 under some dodgy circumstances. While the head honcho at CBS claims it was a purely economic decision, it's clear as day there there was some interference from Trump, who needed to be appeased for the Paramount-Skydance merger to go through. It's especially obvious now that Colbert's late-night peer, Jimmy Kimmel, has also been taken off the air for criticising the current administration.
Host: Stephen Colbert | Writers: Ariel Duman and Jay Katsir
Language: English | Rating: M
Genre: Late Night Talk Show
Exclusive on: Paramount+
The Traitors - 10

Won:
- Best reality competition programme
The Traitors is the hot new-ish reality competition show hosted by Alan Cummings. Impressively, it took the award for the one category it was nominated in: Best Reality Competition Programme. That one is exclusive to Ten. That’s Ten the network and the streaming app, previously known as 10play, which is confusing.
Creator: Alan Cumming | Cast: Carolyn Wiger, Tom Sandoval, Nikki Garcia, Bob the Drag Queen, Dorinda Medley, Dylan Efron
Language: English | Rating: M
Genre: Reality competition
Exclusive on: Ten
