NBN 25 is suitable for 1-2 person households with basic browsing
and streaming needs.
NBN 50 is the most popular NBN speed and suitable for 3-4 users. It
is great for families, and capable of mulitple video streams.
NBN 100 is now largely only available to those on FTTN, FTTC, and
FTTB. Those on HFC and FTTP should pick an NBN 500 plan instead for faster
speeds at a similar price. NBN 100 plans are good for families and fast
downloads.
NBN 500 has now replaced NBN 100 for those on FTTP and HFC. NBN 500
plans are 10x faster than NBN 50 but only cost a few dollars more per month.
NBN 500 plans are the best value option if you can get them.
NBN 750 is even faster. NBN 750 plans are great if you transfer
large files for work, or download games from online stores.
NBN 1000 is some of the fastest internet you can get. NBN 1000 plans
are great for insanely fast downloads and bragging rights.
NBN 2000 is the fastest internet you can get. NBN 2000 plans are
overkill for most, but if you want overkill, they're here.
TPG FAQs
Depending on what
you use the internet for and how many people are
connected, a "the right internet speed" can vary. Regular
web browsing, for instance, may require 1-2 Mbps, to stream
video in Standard Definition (SD) may require upwards of 3Mbps
or High Definition Video (HD) upwards of 5Mbps. To stream really
high quality video in 4K, you will need at least 25Mbps. For the best experience and value, we typically recommend an
NBN 50 plan at a minimum to ensure there's
enough bandwidth for everyone in your household.
Internet speed tests like the one on this
page can provide a great estimate as to how fast your TPG
connection is. Before starting your speed
test, try to restart your modem and router, pause all internet
use, restart your computer, and clear your web browser’s cache
to maximise the accuracy of the test. If you're connected to a
wireless network, you'll want to run this test with your device
in close proximity of your modem or router.
Typically, just a few seconds. Internet speed tests are
generally a very quick way to see your current upload and download speeds
and
verify whether your current internet connection is right for you.
There are plenty of reasons your internet
could be slow, and as such, there are plenty of options for
trying improve
your internet speeds. Moving your router to a more
central location, adding a WiFi extender, and simply turning
your modem off and on again can all potentially improve your
internet speeds if you're having issues. It's also definitely
worth getting in touch with TPG to try and diagnose the

tool. This, of course, will all depend on the type of
technology you use to connect to the internet: in some cases,
even changing provider won't do anything to improve your speeds.
Upload speed relates to internet activity where you are
uploading content to the internet such as a video call or saving files to online storage like Google Drive. Download
speed
comes into play when you are web browsing or downloading content from the
internet such as photos and videos.
If you're consistently noticing slower WiFi speeds than
normal, you may want to consider how many devices you have connected and how
many people are simultaneously using your internet. If those numbers don't
seem
out of the ordinary, also consider what activities individuals are doing
while
connected to your internet. For example, an increase in video streaming,
online
gaming, or video calling from one device could potentially be causing slower
speeds on other devices. If you still haven't identified a cause after
considering these factors, also consider the location of your router, the
number
of applications on each device that are using the internet, and the type of
modem or router you have.
