Nokia today confirmed that its new Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 smartphones will be coming to Australian providers with availability, pricing and colours to be announced at the end of October.
Both phones are part of Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 launch. The Lumia 920 is the flagship weighing in with a 4.5 inch 768×1280 display, dual-core 1.5GHz processor, wireless charging and Nokia PureView camera.
The 820 is more of a mid-range device with an 8MP non-PureView camera, 4.3 inch 480×800 WVGA display and the same dual-core 1.5GHz processor.
Both the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 have 4G LTE support and will reportedly run on every network in Australia, including dual-carrier networks such as Vodafone’s new 3G+ service.
We’re extremely excited to see not only Nokia’s new Lumia line in Australia, but the launch of Windows Phone 8 in general. Windows Phone 7 is a great, intuitive and beautiful OS that Nokia knocked out of the park with the Nokia Lumia 900. We can’t wait to see what they can do with an OS as reportedly powerful as Windows Phone 8.
One thing in particular we’re keen to try is the PureView camera on the Lumia 920. While the camera tech of non-Apple manufacturers has been catching up to Apple for a while now, we still haven’t used a smartphone camera that can compare to its contemporary iPhone. Word on the web is that the Lumia 920 might just be up to the task, but we’ll reserve judgement until we see it with our own eyes.
In conjunction with the Lumia launch, there will be a range of Nokia accessories for NFC enabled smartphones available:
- Nokia Purity Pro Wireless Stereo Headset by Monster – a high-definition over-ear stereo Bluetooth headset with active noise cancellation. NFC allows one-tap pairing to play and share music, plus the built-in Dolby Headphone technology inside Nokia Lumia devices creates a spacious sound when paired with the headset.
- JBL PlayUp Portable Wireless Speaker for Nokia – a portable speaker that uses Bluetooth and NFC to wireless stream music from your Nokia Lumia device.
- JBL PowerUp Wireless Charging Speaker for Nokia – features NFC and Bluetooth connectivity in old-fashioned retro styling. PowerUp is the world’s first wireless charging docking station speaker, which means it can charge a Nokia Lumia while it’s streaming music.
