"Playing media back on the Vita is done via the individual Music Player and Video Player applications, which both work well. Video in particular looks fantastic on the Vita's screen, and the app is nicely designed with a preview that lets you jump to any minute in the timeline by scrolling through frames. The Music Player app is simple, but runs in the background across other apps, including games — press down the Home button anywhere to bring up basic controls, and you can use your own custom soundtrack. "Overall, the PlayStation Vita is the most advanced portable gaming system ever made. While the price is deceiving because of a hidden cost, gamers are getting an impressively complete package right out of the gate. A healthy launch line-up is sure to provide something for every kind of gamer." 8.2/10

"Sony's reasoning has clearly been: if we're going to make the world's most powerful handheld console, we might as well make it the best it can possibly be. That involves packing industry-leading visuals, hence the 5-inch OLED screen which on its own is as big as the entire PSP Go console was." 4/5 Stars

"The only problem with Vita's credentials as an essential travel companion is its size. Although it is light and reasonably thin, at 182mm wide and 83mm tall the Vita is larger than even the first generation PlayStation Portable, and makes a device like the iPhone 4 look tiny."

"The capacitive 5-inch OLED touchscreen that dominates the Vita is big, beautiful and multitouch-capable. It’s bright enough that most games and movies are playable even in direct sunlight. The excellent viewing angle makes it easy to see what’s going on even at extreme angles, and the glossy finish doesn’t pick up fingerprints or smudge easily." 4/5 Stars

"Skype for the Sony PlayStation Vita lets you make voice and video calls on your handheld game system, but it's too simple to be your only version of Skype." 3.5/5

Mixed

"Its rear-facing camera still whimpers with a maximum resolution of 640 x 480, often producing noisy images that skimp on detail. Swapping to the front-facing camera will frame the player's mug at the very same resolution, though its lens' off-center positing ensures they won't be looking at the birdie. These shooters work well enough for games like Little Deviants to use for augmented reality mini-games, but the Vita won't make you consider leaving your point-and-shoot camera (or even your cell phone camera) at home.
