The so called 'Google phones' have been much talked about in the mobile phone industry and are considered to be key competitors to the increasingly popular Apple iPhone. They are called Google phones because they use the Android operating system initially developed by Google. There are currently three different Google phones available in Australia: HTC Dream, the HTC Magic and the Samsung Galaxy Icon

The HTC Dream was released in Australia in Feburary 2009 and generated a lot of early interest in phones running Android although it didn't come close to the popularity of the iPhone.
