iPad in Australia (Comparison Guide)
By WhistleOut
The iPad has the potential to be a revolutionary device, changing the way we consume old and new media on the move, and in our homes. If you want an iPad, there's a few things that you need to know before you buy and we've put it all the information in one place.
1) Buying an iPad & Prices
Apple (and other Australian retailers to be announced) will sell the iPad & iPad 3G models from June 7, 2010 (updated). When you've got your iPad, mobile carriers like Telstra, Optus, Vodafone or 3 Mobile can then sell you 3G broadband access via a new MicroSIM card.
2) The Difference Between iPad Models
(WiFi vs 3G)
There are two types of iPad to consider - The first model is known as the iPad (cheaper option) and will connect to the internet via WiFi (in your home or at a WiFi hotspot/cafe), and the second model (iPad 3G) will connect to the internet anywhere you can use your mobile phone via a 3G network, and connect in your house via WiFi.
3) iPad Data Plans Compared
All 5 carriers will end up offering data data plans to Australian customers, with each carrier releasing their own iPad strategy and data plans. Here's the carrier's who have released pricing and the data plans available:
4) What is a MicroSIM (& Why You'll Need One)
To connect to the mobile internet, your new iPad uses a MicroSIM card which inserts into the side of the device. It is not the same as your standard SIM card and you'll need a MicroSIM with an iPad 3G.
