Where can you use Vodafone Mobile Broadband?
Vodafone Mobile Broadband is available in Metropolitan Sydney, Central Coast, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, Adelaide and Perth, plus all major international airports in Australia.
Coverage
Make sure you use Vodafone's coverage checker to ensure that you are within Vodafone's 3G (HSDPA) network.
Outside Vodafone's 3G broadband areas, you will be switched the GPRS network which is slower.
Your Download Speed
Your download speed is affected by where your location and the coverage of the network in that location. There are three connection speeds:
- Fastest: HSDPA Mobile which can operate at up to 3.6Mbps (with typical speeds quoted by Vodafone in the 600Kbps to 1.4Mps range).
- Slower: 3G which usually operates up to 384kbps download speed.
- Slow: GPRS which operates at 50kbps when you are outside metropolitan areas.
Downloads & Uploads
The data that you download and upload by viewing websites (inlcuding email) is counted in your monthly allowance.
Installation
USB Modem
The USB modem plugs into a free USB port on your computer. You can connect / disconnect as you wish.
Connecting to the Internet
When you are connecting to the mobile broadband network you need to ensure that you have strong signal strength. On their website Vodafone suggest that you might want to position your computer close to the window in your house to enable maximum coverage.
