More About Vodafone
Vodafone is one of the largest mobile telecommunications companies in the world, large enough to even contend with carriers such as Verizon or AT&T in the US, and currently has operations in 25 countries and partner networks in a further 42. It was the third licenced mobile provider in Australia where now more than 7.57 million customers are subscribed to Vodafone broadband and mobile plans on its GSM and 3G network that covers up to 94% of the Australian population (as of August 2009).
Over the past 12 months Vodafone has been busy replacing its entire data network Australia-wide, with over a thousand new sites added to the 850MHz network. This network upgrade comes in preparation for 4G network compatibility, and increases the existing 3G network service quality considerably.
Once all network upgrades are complete, Vodafone customers will be on Australia’s newest 3G network and can hopefully look forward to faster speeds and a more reliable service. Vodafone plans to commence upgrading to 4G in 2013, with planned mobile download speeds of up to 15x faster than the current 3G service. It's a promising sign that Vodafone will remain a viable contender in the Aussie mobile market.
