USB Modems Available - Up to 7.2Mbps Connection Speeds
Choose one of 3 USB modems to connect to the mobile internet at download speeds of up to 7.2Mpbs with the E1803 Modem & E1756 Modem.
Coverage
3 Mobile Broadband is available in the '3 Broadband Zone' which covers most metropolitan areas (except NT and TAS).
The network coverage for 3's Broadband Zone (which is coverage on their 3G network) continues to grow. Check with the 3 customer service representative when you sign up, or use their
coverage checker to find out if 3 Mobile Broadband is available in your local area.
Roaming
If you travel outside the 3 'Broadband Zone', you are still able to access the Internet via 'roaming'. This means that you will be using another network to connect to the internet (you will seen an indicator on your device / laptop to indicate roaming). When you use this roaming feature due to a lack of coverage by 3 Mobile, you only get a small included usage allowance of 2MB on the 1GB plan, 4MB on the 3GB plan, and 5MB on the 6GB plan are included for national roaming where any excess usage is charged at 50c per MB.
Your Download Speed
Your download speed is affected by your modem, your location, the strength of the coverage of the network in that location and the amount of other customers accessing the network at that time. There are three connection speeds which you can enjoy with 3 Mobile Broadband...
- Fastest in 3G Broadband Zone: 3G HSDPA Mobile can operate at up to a maximum of 7.2 Mbps. The typical speeds you experience will be in the 600Kbps to 1.5Mbps range.
- 3G Roaming: Similar speeds are available when you do need to roam onto other 3G networks.
- 2G Roaming: GPRS which operates at 20-40kbps when you are in areas where there is no 3G Coverage.
