Installation of Modems
Installation of the USB modem is generally quick and easy. The installation uses a simple connection software which manages your connection with the modem. The software comes on an easy to use set up CD.
Your Choice of Modems
With BigPond wireless, you can choose from two modem options, with the BigPond USB Elite Modem providing the most mobile option for use in laptop computers in mobile locations.
BigPond USB Elite™ Wireless USB
This USB Elite Modem can plug directly into the USB port of a PC or Mac and is as portable as your laptop. In terms of network speed, Telstra say that their Elite card will give you typical download speeds of 550kbps to 8Mbps.The USB Elite Modem is a plug and play device which provides your laptop with a direct connection to the internet via a USB port (you will need a spare USB port for this USB Modem to plug into).
This USB modem does not require a power connection to work, just a spare USB socket on your laptop of desktop computer.

BigPond Gateway Modem
A gateway modem will connect to the Next G network wirelessly, meaning that you don't need a landline connection like ADSL or Cable and the Next G internet access will be routed around the house via a WiFi signal. This allow your computer or device (like an iPhone) and other devices to connect to to the Gateway modem wirelessly (like a standard in-house wireless modem would) so that you and others around you can access the internet connection.
This single gateway modem connects to the internet, then shares this one connection around all the people who are using it meaning that the download / upload speed slows down as more people connect to your connection. You will need a power point to plug this gateway modem into the wall.

With these plans, you can upgrade / downgrade your plan to a higher / lower usage quota once per month / billing cycle. If you are going on the road and need extra capacity, upgrade before you leave and downgrade when you get back.

Specific content from the BigPond like BigPond Movies, Music and Sport are available to download without these impacting your monthly usage allowance.
Email Account(s)
BigPond membership includes 1 email address and mailbox. You can choose your own BigPond email address (as long as it's available). There is 20MB of mail storage space and each additional mailbox costs $1 per month with up to 15 available.
You can access all webmail services like Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo email through your browser as you would normally, and access their POP / IMAP features if you use those.
